The Wall

The wall never broke,
It rose in the sky.
The man inside would only croak,
“It never did any good to cry”

The resilience was staggering,
Even the light didn’t pass through.
Inside there was only a king,
and no sign of happiness, not a clue.

But the weathered wall had to be dropped,
After all, it had lost its meaning.
Once there, it had the unwanted stopped,
But now it was only the good screening.

To stand inside in the shadows,
was one heavy task.
Outside, there was swayed a meadow,
Even the wall could not its smell mask.

But once, a mighty noise came,
that everyone could hear.
The wild, and the tame,
Those who had one ear.

The wall was crumbling.
The person inside,
To wall came stumbling,
But could not swallow his pride.

And down came the wall,
and came down fast.
Once it had been tall,
But it could not last.

People came to see the wall that broke,
Which once rose in the sky.
But they only heard the croak,
“It never did any good to cry”

And no one would cry.

Stubbornness towards society.

India has a beautifully constructed constitution. It’s fundamental to any democratic country. India’s constitution has guaranteed many rights to the people. But, the one that has affected me most is the right to freedom of expression. It’s one of the six fundamental rights in the constitution. This right is essential to our survival and well-being. We are taught this right in school, along the other fundamental rights guaranteed to everyone. But, are we really utilizing this right?

Many of us use this right in jokes. “Why did you swear?” “I have the freedom of expression.”
The thing is that this is no laughing matter. The government is kept on it’s toes only because of this right. The government was chosen by us, hence we are the ones responsible to keep it working. Whenever someone tries to say something, some critical remark on the policies of the government, that person is bombarded on all sides. Everyone tries to shut the person down. He/she is confined to spreading his/her message to the people who are already hearing it, and are comfortable with it. The thing is, that’s why there is the freedom of expression. It is their to keep the government uncomfortable, and to keep the leaders more open towards our needs, not their own. But society as we know it tries to stop us from using this right.

That is why it’s important, sometimes, to shut out society, and think ourselves what is the better way, the way that will lead us to a better country. Sometimes you will be wrong, sometimes other people will want to demote you and tell you that you’re wrong, but that is the point of freedom of expression. We are better able to communicate than before. Stubbornness, many people say, is a bad habit. I say that stubbornness is a fundamental habit that is neither good nor bad. It’s essential for freedom, for expression and especially for winning games. Being stubborn does not mean that you’re wrong. It means that you are trying to express yourself, and believe in something so much, that no persuasion can change your mind.
